Initiation Module – What is Innovation?
An introduction to concept of innovation and its context and scope as an integral function of business in today’s highly competitive and volatile market.

Module 1: Ethnography and User Research
In this module participants will learn the rationales, strategies and methodologies of User Research. The module will include topics like anthropology, sociology, psychology, semiotics, cultural analysis, and context research. Participants will learn how to use methodologies like observation, interviews, focus groups etc to get maximum insights. Participants will also understand how to best utilize photography, video recoding etc in a user study.

Module 2: Human Factors
This module concerns the design of systems, products, and services to make them easier, safer, and more effective for human use. It emphasizes principles and concepts, and profiles examples of applications. This course is a broad survey of human factor topics important to researchers. The course tries to understand relationship between product and service design and cultural values and behavior.

Module 3: Analysis
In this module participants will be exposed to the different methods of analyzing data, defining problems and identifying patterns and insights. Some of the techniques that will be covered are diagrammatic techniques for process and organizational description, cognitive task analysis, flow analysis, user profiling, cross cultural comparisons, long range forecasting, scenario building etc.

Module 4: Ideation and Co-creation
This module will help participants to open their minds to the user of their intuition, guide them with methods of thinking of alternative ideas to address problems. Participants will be exposed to methodologies of conducting a structured brainstorming focused on specific problems and their solutions.

Module 5: Prototyping
This module offers participants a broad exposure to prototyping methods. Participants also learn about the social and political issues involved in bringing prototyping into the product-development lifecycle. Participants will acquire competencies like quick prototyping, scenario building, storytelling, effective communication and feedback understanding.

Module 6: Business Planning and Managing Innovation
In this module participants will understand the process of creating and developing business opportunities. Participants will also understand the importance of managing and documenting the innovation process. The course stretches all the way from the pre-idea stage, to the creation of the business ideas, identification of market demand and competitive analyses and finally to issues surrounding the actual branding and launch of the product or service.
